Compass Caboolture - trainee cooking a bbq
At Compass Caboolture Campus, a man wearing glasses and a blue shirt is focused on drawing or colouring at a table, surrounded by colourful artwork and markers. Another person is seated in the background.

The Compass Caboolture Campus is nestled amongst the trees and parklands and provides a peaceful outlook while supporting Trainees to build lifelong skills.

Programming specific to complex and high needs

Intensive Interaction

Intensive interaction is a play-based approach to help develop early, pre-speech communication and interaction skills like eye contact, facial expressions, the ability to copy sounds and shared attention. It also aims to reduce repetitive and self-injurious behaviour.
The claim is that intensive interaction helps individuals learn how to engage with other people for progressively longer periods in gradually more complex and diverse activities.

Sensory Exploration

Sensory exploration is an individual’s way of examining, discovering, categorising and making sense of the world. It is highly beneficial to provide individuals with opportunities for sensory play with activities tailored to focus on sensory stimuli.

Person-Centred Communication

Focusing on the use of total communication with the implementation of Auslan, consistent routines, picture aids, verbal and physical prompting and staff awareness of delayed processing to enable the Trainees to fully communicate with staff.

Active Support

The hotel model is where support staff do things for the people they look after and then become observers by not doing things for themselves. Conversely, active support is a way of ensuring people have the opportunity to engage and take part in their own support by having a person-centred plan for them.

A woman with bright red lipstick and rosy cheeks smiles joyfully with her eyes closed, clasping her hands. She wears a black fur stole and a colourful floral headpiece, as if wondering “What If” against a dark, dramatic background.
